With a very large studio facing 'Puddefjorden', the specular view of the fjord, the ships and the seagulls was a refreshing change from the cityscape in Singapore. The surroundings and time spent in USF's spacious studio has inspired her to go back to basics, using the paper, black and blue colour to create large abstract paintings measuring a total of 150cm by 1000cm.
Shih Yun Yeo is resident artist from 1 april to 27 may 2009 at USF in Bergen.
She will paint a section of the paper everyday and then roll it in and on the following day, expose a brand-new section of the paper and continue this working process. Each roll of 150cm by 1000cm paper has about a week's of "Diary" paintings. Besides this, she has also created a new series on paper, measuring 58cm by 78cm, with only twigs she found in the park near USF. This series of works are executed without the use of any brushes.
During her residency, she has visited many art museums and galleries' openings and was introduced to many people in the arts scene in Bergen. During her Open Studio here at USF in april 2009, she is delighted to meet many like-minded artists and curators and gallery owners. Shih Yun is looking forward to her exhibition with Stiftelsen 3,14, curated by Marlin Barth from 8 may to 21 june 2009, which she will screen her "Diary" 16mm hand-painted film done during her residency in USF.
Shih Yun hopes to collaborate with nordic musicans for her upcoming live painting performance in her studio in USF in mid May 2009. Besides art, she has not missed out on the beautiful fjords tour and is awe-struck at the amazing beauty of nature in Norway.
